EDUCATED, WINE SIPPING ENGINEER MAKES THE
EXPORTER HALL OF FAME
If
our top exporters were melded into one entity, the result would
be an educated, wine sipping engineer - if judging from the first
three inductees to the inaugural Australian Export Awards (AEA)
Hall of Fame is anything to go by.
Adelaide-based wine producer BRL Hardy, Western Australian firm
Clough Engineering and the University of NSW are the first three
organisations to be in inaugurated into the AEA Hall of Fame, Trade
Minister Mark Vaile.
Mr Vaile made the announcement at the launch of the 39th Australian
Export Awards, jointly presented by the Australian Trade Commission
(Austrade) and Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI),
announced on May 7th at the National Launch of the Australian Export
Awards.
Mr Vaile said the three inductees had secured their place in the
AEA Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by Austrade and ACCI, by winning
a national category Australian Export Award three times.
"The AEA Hall of Fame is designed to honour the truly exceptional,"
Mr Vaile said.
"It is the latest chapter in the Australian Export Awards,
which have been recognising Australian exporting excellence since
the 1960s.
"While
it is important to each year to recognise a brand new crop of export
heroes, the AEA Hall of Fame lets us congratulate the organisations
which have made a sustained effort into exporting.
"A recent Austrade report found that just 55 per cent of companies
which export do so on a regular basis. The Liberal-National Government
aims to unleash the potential of the 45 per cent of 'irregular'
exporters and help them become regulars.
"These three AEA Hall of Fame inductees are leading examples
to other exporters of the benefits of exporting on a consistent
and sustainable basis," he said.
Mr Vaile said exporters make a major contribution to our community
by creating jobs and fostering education, training and opportunity.
"It is for this reason that the Federal Government has committed
to seeing the number of Australian exporters double over the next
five years," he said.
